Welcome!

I write this welcome message on the final day of NCSS 2018, in anticipation of the work that lies ahead for those of us with the privilege and responsibility of planning CUFA and NCSS 2019 in Austin, Texas. I first want to thank our fearless CUFA 2018 leaders, Chair Alex Cuenca and Program Chair Chris Busey, who created an uplifting, inspiring and diverse conference that truly illuminated the tremendous amount of scholarship in the field of social studies education. Drawing from Chris' conference vision, Expanding the intellectual contours of social studies education in troubling times, as well as the many program chairs who preceded him, such as my dear friends and colleagues Brooke Blevins and Sarah Shear, we intend to continue highlighting innovations in our field while also considering how to move the field forward in our complex world and current political climate.

We will regularly update this unofficial conference website to support CUFA members as they prepare for our Austin convening on November 20 and 21st, with information from funding opportunities to dining and entertainment recommendations. Please comment if there are any specific topics you'd like to see/hear more of in 2019 and share what you loved in 2018!

Roundtable and paper session papers due October 28

We're less than a month away! Remember to submit your paper for the conference by Monday, October 28 in order to give discussants ample time to review your work. You can upload the paper to the Open Conference system and/or emailed to your discussant by October 28. To upload your paper, visit  cufa2019.socialstudies.org/ openconf.php , scroll down to the bottom of the page, and under authors select "upload file." This will replace your proposal with your actual paper. If you are presenting at a roundtable, you do not need to email the paper, simply upload it to the system as described above. If you are unable to locate your discussant's email address, contact  cufa19conference@gmail.com . Finally, don't forget to register for NCSS & CUFA. You can register at  www.socialstudies.org/ conference/...   Advance rates end on November 15. Update those profiles for the CUFA program!

Have you changed your affiliation, name, and/or address since you submitted your CUFA proposal? Please visit the OpenConf system to update your information before we begin drafting the program so your information is current. The program will be released by early September so you can being planning accordingly. Remember, the conference starts with Bavu Blakes ' keynote on Wednesday morning with the first general session starting mid-morning. Thursday is a full day of programming with receptions on both Wednesday and Thursday, and the Grad Forum has been moved to Friday morning at the Hilton connected via skybridge to the Austin Convention Center. If you have not yet made your hotel reservations, please do so soon if you want to utilize the NCSS discount - rooms are running out fast!
